Skopje’s marathon this year is unlike any other in history. For the very first time, 20 lucky volunteers will be using the latest ECG technology to monitor their hearts while running. The state of the art technology consists of a lightweight sensor that sticks to the runner’s chest, a smartphone monitoring application and a very dedicated doctor who makes sure that everything is a-okay while the runners are rushing towards the finish line.
The sensors and heart monitoring technology, named ECGAlert, are the product of Innovation Dooel. As the name suggests, the company deals with innovative IT projects in Macedonia and globally. This particular project ECGalert is party funded by Macedonia’s Fund for Innovation and Technological Development.
Among the pioneering runners are individuals from Skopje’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, the local radio medium Antenna 5 and similar startups from Skopje’s IT scene. This will be the first sporting event where volunteers will get the chance to test out this state of the art technology for free, but will not be the last one. Stay tuned for future sporting events where ECGalert will be supporting the health of our athletes.
